This first piece in the Mōkihinui Suite is full of innocence. On a sunny day the Mōkihinui River is full of lively movement and reflected sunlight. Imagine deep emerald green swimming holes and rushing rapids.

Mōkihinui Mists features the deep and mysterious sonority of the bass clarinet matched with a long held high note on violin to set the scene of forested hills cloaked in mist. The slow rising and falling of the melody suggests the all-enveloping movement of the ever changing mists.
